LOBBY CONCEPT
A participatory installation to create space for silenced victims of political violence in Korea.
Our production of Antigone centered shaman ritual practice as resistance to government suppression of mourning.
We set an ancestral memorial table for the Jesa ritual, with food offerings (Sangsik) to feed the spirits.
Jeju 4.3 victims have had proper ritual stolen from them.
We invited guests to reflect on their own ghosts as they put up Jihwa (Buddhist and Shaman paper flowers).
VIDEO
My perspective on how the suppression of mourning in Antigone mirrors the silencing of Jeju 4.3 Massacre victims.
I am from Jeju Island. When reading the play, I could only think of how Jeju 4.3 survivors had to secretly mourn their loved ones.
